It’s official - The Firefly Summer is out in the world!
In all my years of authoring - since 2008, egad - my favorite moment is still the one when you go into a bookstore and see your book on the shelf. It’s always a little bit of a head-spinner, because this story that started as a fragment of a thought in the Notes app or a scribbled down idea in a journal, or just three not-very-well written sentences in a word doc entitled MG Maybe???? is now somehow an real book people can hold in their hands and purchase with actual currency.
I went back through my emails yesterday, to try and find the first mention of this book, and realized it was from 2019 (!!). I started working on it in earnest in 2020 - it was the thing that really buoyed me during the pandemic. It was fascinating to see how much changed, obviously - but a lot stayed the same. That germ of an idea I had carried all the way through until, four years later, there is is on the shelf.
It just never stops being magic, and I’m still so grateful to be able to do it.
I’m thrilled to have the book out - and so happy that it’s getting a real, in-person book release! My last book, Take Me Home Tonight, came out in 2021. So the book events were all over zoom and everything was still pretty locked down. I’m thrilled that I was able to sign books and meet readers at Yallwest last weekend - and to get to launch the book in person TONIGHT! If you’re local, please swing by!
And then I hit the road (very) early on Wednesday to kick off my first book tour since 2018!! Hope to see you if you’re in any of these areas!
But mostly, I hope you enjoy the book. It’s filled with sunshine and ice cream, adventures and treasure maps, and a defunct summer camp packed with cousins and aunts and uncles. It’s about the family we have, the family we find, and how what we think of as family is always changing. It’s about humid summer nights telling stories around a campfire, with a riot of stars overhead. It’s about that one summer when we start to grow up - just a little bit. I hope you like it.

I got it yesterday and am already a few chapters in. Love it so far! It feels like the perfect summer read.
I'm so excited this book is finally out! I can't wait to meet all the characters and feel right at home in this new story...even if it's *technically* for a different age group than me lol! Morgan Matson, you are one of my favs!!!
